Source: diario page 12 This is the first time in the world that a law with these characteristics has been approved, establishing a reunion between socieity and nature,” said the acting Bolivian president, Alvaro Garcia Linera. The law emphasizes that the rights of Mother Nature include life, biodviersity, water, clean air, balance, restoration and freedom from contaimination. The fact that the law was approved by the legislators “marks an age and makes world history”, Garcia Linera said, adding that it’s important to be aware that the Earth “is the Mother of all”, and that as a result defending it is “defending all of humanity and preventing capitalism from attacking and exploiting it to the point of putting the world on the edge of extinction.” |

The Pluirnational Legislative Assembly approved a regulation establishing a “new relationship between man and nature, the harmony of which must be preserved as a guarantee of its regeneration”. The pillars of the law are respect for nature and the defense of its rights, the intercultural character of nature, and a prohibiton against converting nature into merchandise. In addition, the law establishes an Advocate for Mother Earth, which will work to ensure that these rights are put into effect, promoted, publicized, and respected.
